The Webster Technique is the specific analysis and adjustment of a pregnant person. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neurobiomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region is improved.
Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-position. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

Techniques We Use
Diversified/Full Spine Adjusting
This technique involves using a small, but quick amount of pressure through the subluxated vertebrae in order to restore proper neurological input, movement, and function to a joint. This can often lead to hearing a sound or a “pop” during the adjustment, also known as a cavitation. This sound is not indicative of an adjustment but merely the by-product of one but is a perfectly safe and natural way to re-establish proper alignment.
Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)
This technique is focused on the relationship between the base of the spine (sacrum) and the base of the skull (occiput) and the reciprocal movement between the two areas as they aid in the vital flow of Cerebral-Spinal-Fluid (CSF) as it surrounds the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. This CSF flow is optimal for health and acts as the circulatory system of the brain and central nervous system. Restoring proper flow of CSF helps restore the functional relationship between the head, spine and pelvis. This technique is considered a low force or “no force” technique and utilizes gentle mobilization or gentle holds to specific areas while you breath or uses blocks or wedges positioned precisely under the pelvis to steadily realign the essential areas of the body, thus ensuring a very comfortable way to restore function to the patient’s body.
Toggle Technique
The Toggle Technique is a specialized upper cervical adjustment designed to restore proper alignment to the top two vertebrae of the spine: the Atlas (C1) and the Axis (C2). A specialized “drop” piece similar to Thompson technique is used to deliver a quick, gravity-assisted adjustment to the upper cervical region. A small infant toggle piece can also be worn around either the doctor’s neck or a parent’s neck to assist in a safe and easy adjustment to a seated child right in the comfort of their parent’s lap.
Sustained Contact
A gentle Sustained Contact adjustment is made with just a fingertip using light pressure to correct the subluxated or misaligned segment of the spine to restore proper neurologic function and movement in the area. A sustained contact adjustment uses no more pressure than you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato while grocery shopping. This technique is extremely effective for babies and infants.
Activator Technique
The Activator is a hand-held, spring loaded instrument that provides low force impulses to specific areas of the body to restore proper neurological function. This technique is extremely gentle and you will not hear any “popping” or “cracking” sounds, known as cavitations, but simply a small “click” of the device. Kids often refer to this tool as a “clicker” and enjoy its use on their little spines!
Thompson “Drop” Technique
Thompson technique is a low force chiropractic technique that uses a drop table to assist in the adjustments. This “drop” table is designed to allow gravity to assist and work in combination with a manually applied pressure to restore proper joint movement and function. The table often makes a loud sound but rest assured, the technique is very gentle and unlike a diversified adjustment, cavitations are not typically heard.
Cranial Work
Often closely associated with SOT, cranial work is a very gentle technique designed to encourage proper flow of CSF fluid throughout the cranium, surrounding the brain and can influence dura and meningeal tension. The bones of the cranium are connected by joints called sutures where small movement takes place. Restrictions within the cranium can lead to things such as headaches, TMJ pain, feeding issues or breastfeeding challenges, or poor sinus drainage/congestion. We often also use cranial work in order to help infants and children with cranial distortions (“flat heads”) due to torticollis, birth trauma, etc and can work along with helmet therapy to restore balance and symmetry to those little noggins!

“Wonderful care in a welcoming and accommodating environment!! I can’t recommend Dr. Dana enough! I started seeing her for post-partum hip and back pain and soon my whole family (husband, 3 year old daughter, and 3 month old daughter) were seeing her. Dr. Dana is extremely knowledgeable and her staff are as dedicated as she is. It’s so nice as a Mom to be able to get care for myself and my family all in one place and not have to worry about the kids “bothering” anyone since the office is so kid friendly! With or without kids, I would highly recommend Dr. Dana for your Chiropractic needs!””
